Alle innlegg i serien "lisenskrigen" kan dere lese her.

Clippings
As I didn't read this on my Kindle I have no clippings. However, here are a few quotes I liked.

A man goes to knowledge as he goes to war: wide-awake, with fear, with respect, and with absolute assurance. Going to knowledge or going to war in any other manner is a mistake, and whoever makes it might never live to regret it.

Anything is one of a million paths. Therefore you must always keep in mind that a path is only a path; if you feel you should not follow, you must not stay with it under any circumstances.

All paths are the same: they lead nowhere. ... Does this path have a heart? If it does, the path is good; if it doesn't, it is of no use. Both paths lead nowhere; but one has a heart, the other doesn't. One makes for a joyful journey; as long as you follow it, you are one with it. The other will make you curse your life. One makes you strong; the other weakens you.

Black Diamond Gigawatt review

src

The review
This is a short review of the 2012-2013 Gigawatt ski from Black Diamond, used for telemark skiing with the Rottefella NTN Freeride bindings (green power tubes, with me being about 80 kg and normal leg strength).

I've used this pair, in length 185 cm, for one season, in Japanese powder and in Norwegian snow. In deep powder snow these skis are awesome. I have not tried any pair that has given me a better feeling in the powder. These are gigantic powder tools, made to float on top of light snow crystals. So, if I'm going back to Japan next season, for more telemark powder skiing, I will for sure bring my Gigawatt. In other conditions these skis are crap, it is as simple as that.

Description
At a massive 135 mm underfoot, the Black Diamond Gigawatt is the biggest, baddest ski that Black Diamond makes. By combining an extended running length with a tip-to-tail, fully rockered profile, the Gigawatt achieves longboard-style, powder skiing bliss with enough edge underfoot for confidence on groomers and hard snow. That profile, combined with the weight-saving ribs and channels of our iconic Formula One Technology, allows this supertanker to still be responsive and quick edge-to-edge-critical for a ski this size.

  • 135 mm waist with our powder specialty geometry
  • Full-length, de-cambered Rocker for instant turn response
  • More surface area and usable contact length than the Megawatt
  • Poplar and birch Internal Wall Core Technology for added pop and stability
  • Formula One Technology with three ribs and Torsion Box Construction for maximum torsional stiffness
  • Optimal use: 90% soft snow / 10% hard snow

Coastal Trail Series Sussex 2014

Race #2 2014 - 21km - 1:48:02 [PB] - Saturday 22nd of March

It doesn't get much nicer than this. Eastbourne in the background (src).

Not the best organised event, and horrible that the organisers started the race 10 minutes before the announced time. It doesn't help with enough toilets, if you're inside taking a dump when the start goes. Me and several other runners were late for the start. Luckily I didn't lose more than maybe a minute, all in all.

Despite of this I want to recommend this trail run. The track itself is a reason enough for visiting. It is the nicest half marathon track I've ever done. It doesn't get much more scenic than this. The track was quite special as well, as we had to climb walls and pass several farm gates along the way.

Although of it not being very well organised, the organisers were very nice. So where the participants. And when people heard we came from Norway just for this race they got surprised; "Really? All the way from Norway?"

Eastbourne, where we stayed, is also a nice little town. Sleepy, this time of year, soon to be crowded with summer tourists, craving for tan.

Vinterkarusellen #10 2014

Race #1 2014 - 5km - 21:07 [SB] - Saturday 8th of March

Peeps out of focus, but in shape (src).

Guess what, today I did a 5 km race in more than 21 minutes, and despite this result I am very satisfied. I ran as expected and it was just great being back in the social "race circus". And I did reach my goal of setting a season best.

My only problem is the lame licence on running. I will boycott all races with licence this season. Due to that decision I am not sure on how many races I am able to do. Will have to search db.kondis.no for licence free events.

Satisfied, in focus, but not in awfully good shape. Just the way I like it this time of year. (src)

The weather is messed up, and nothing reminded me of winter (photo: Bjørn Hytjanstorp / Kondis).

The Clean-up Challenge

MoCh - Challenge #10 February 2014 - The Clean-up Challenge

src

The Challenge
The  February challenge was another wonderful and rewarding challenge. I went through almost everything (I forgot to go through my car) I owned. I sold, gave away or threw away stuff I did not need. Furniture, electronic equipment, clothes, papers, letters and all type of items were looked through. I got rid of hundreds and hundreds of things. I will try to do this once a year. It is such a great freedom to own as little as possible.

Pictures
For some pictures from the challenge check out this, this, this, this, and this.

Current Challenge
The current challange I've named "The No Challenge". I have far too many things to do, my calendar is full of appointments. In March I will say no to all new invitations. I will not cancel any current plans, but my goal is that my calendar for April will be less full. I will make a very few exceptions to this rule, if there is something I really want to do. And I will be able to myself initiate projects, social happenings and so on.

All Challenges
Below is a list of the challenges I've done so far.
Challenge #0 : December 2011 : Rejected by Seven

Flashing the WNDR3700

Flashing
Below is a howto on flashing a Netgear WNDR3700 (v2) with DD-WRT.
DD-WRT is a Linux based alternative OpenSource firmware suitable for a great variety of WLAN routers and embedded systems. The main emphasis lies on providing the easiest possible handling while at the same time supporting a great number of functionalities within the framework of the respective hardware platform used.

The reason why I decided to do this was due to the original Netgear firmware obvioously having issues. The 2.4GHz WiFi was both extremely slow and very unstable, and with the latest firmware upgrade from Netgear I was forced to do something. The result was remarkable. After DD-WRT was installed on the router all WiFi issues were solved.

But please do note (src):
There has been some reports of very weak radios (both 2.4GHz and 5GHz) after flashing DD-WRT, but there is also reports of weak wireless with those that never flashed DD-WRT. The issue seems to be faulty hardware, a fairly large bad batch off the assembly line (see "fix" below). Owners with this problem report the wireless is so weak one can't move any further away from the router than 1 meter. A chart has been made by a WNDR3700 owner that is linked at the bottom of this page, you have over 85% chance to get a good working router. See this thread on netgear forums for some low S/N information: http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=54442
According to this thread TA numbers ending in 01R15 are likely to be bad. 01R17 are better, 07R18 is 50/50, and it appears 01R21+ are usually fine. Anything starting with 02R is from the "2nd generation" and no issues have been reported with the 2.4Ghz/5.0Ghz bands.

Great result after flashing, went from 3.41 mps to 17.54 in download speeds, and 1.73 to 10.71 in upload speeds. This got me wondering if somehow my router from before had been compromised by someone...

Guide
For a detailed guide on how to flash this router please check this page.

Note that for v2 of the router (the version number is found under "Maintainance > Router Status" in the original interface) you have to downgrade the original firmware to 1.0.0.12 before flashing. This can be downloaded from this page.
